Seanchas Eile ó Cheanada: II (1954)

Hazel Yake of Stouffville, Ontario

“Lá dá raibh i lár an gheimhridh bhí baisteadh mhór Mhennonite ann in aice le Baile Stouffer. Do ghearr an ministir poll tríd an leac oighre agus chuirfeadh sé síos ins an bpoll na daoine, ceann ar cheann.

Thit amach é gur sleamhnaigh duine amháin óna lámhaibh agus chuaigh sé leis an sruth chun báis. ‘Sé an Tiarna thug uaidh, agus sé an Tiarna rug leis; go mba beannaigh ainm an Tiarna. Tabhair dhom, le bhur dtoil, ceann eile.’”

“One day in the middle of winter there was a great baptism of Mennonites next to Stouffville. The minister cut a hole through the ice and he would put the people down into the hole, one after the other.

It happened that one person slipped from his hands and he went with the stream to his death. ‘It was the Lord that gave him, and it was the Lord that took him; blessed be the name of the Lord. Please, give me another one.’”
